Chelsea captain full of praise for young first teamers

Current Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta has offered praise for two of the academy’s hottest prospects after impressive pre-season performances.

Speaking to the Chelsea FC website, Azpilicueta has described Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount as ‘very talented players’.

“They are two very talented players who had a great path in our academy.

“They had great spells on loan last season. The next step is to perform well in the first team at Chelsea.”

Of course its a big step to make from playing in the Championship last season, to the Premier League this season.

However, Frank Lampard and Jody Morris are well aware of the talent that they both possess. Especially Mount, who played very well under them at Derby last season.

They will also know Abraham well, from his time in the academy, and also playing under John Terry as assistant manager at Aston Villa last year.

Azpilicueta believes that it will be a dream come true for them in the Chelsea first team this season.

Continuing to the Chelsea website, he said:

“They are Chelsea boys, they dream of having the opportunity in the first team, and hopefully they can keep working the way they have been doing since they came for the first training session.”

Abraham scored the opening goal on Tuesday morning in a 2-1 victory over Barcelona, and Azpilicueta knows the importance of this…

“A goal is very important for Tammy.

“He worked very hard for the team but to score gives that boost to the strikers.

“With Mason’s work-rate and his passing ability, the only way he can go is forward. I am sure they will both be very important for us.”
