As expected, Chelsea academy product Tomas Kalas has completed his permanent move to Bristol City – and the transfer fee we’ve banked in exchange for him will raise a few eyebrows.
Kalas will be remembered for his rock-solid performance against Liverpool at Anfield in 2014. He barely gave Luis Suarez a sniff, yet has rarely been seen again at Chelsea since that time.
He’s one of countless promising young players who have been continually shipped out on loan by Chelsea and as a result not had an opportunity to settle and begin to build their career.
Until now, with Kalas signing for Bristol City permanently. The Czech spent the 2018/19 campaign with the Robins, making 38 league appearances. That’s clearly convinced them to splash out…
Bristol City have signed defender Tomas Kalas for a club-record £8million from Chelsea

It’s quite incredible negotiating from Marina Granovskaia to successfully bank £8M (per Sky Sports) in exchange for a player who has absolutely no worth to Chelsea.
Kalas was not even on the fringes of the first-team, he legitimately had no chance of breaking through under any management, which is why the fee has surprised us to such a degree.
What do you think, Blues? Is £8M fair, or is this another Marina masterclass?
