Chelsea midfielder signs contract extension until 2022 before heading out on loan

Chelsea academy product Luke McCormick has signed an extension to his contract and joined League One outfit Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan, Chelsea have confirmed on the club’s website.

McCormick is a relatively rare case at Chelsea, being 20-years-old and yet to make a senior appearance for any club. He will be given the opportunity to do so this upcoming campaign at Shrewsbury.

At Chelsea since age six, McCormick’s only chance of making it with the Blues is to impress out on-loan, a feat which many of his academy predecessors have struggled to achieve.

He will fancy his chances this campaign, though, with Shrewsbury offering him the chance to compete in League One in what will be his debut season as a professional footballer.

In addition to the loan move, Chelsea have confirmed on the club’s website that McCormick signed a contract extension which will tie him down until the summer of 2022 – which is great news!
