After making an unexpected breakthrough under Antonio Conte, Chelsea fans were hoping to see quite a lot of Ethan Ampadu last season.
Unfortunately, it didn’t work out that way. After some further impressive showings in preaseason, the Wales international found even a few minutes here and there hard to come by under Maurizio Sarri, and then picked up an injury which ruled him out of the busiest time of the season where he had his best shot at playing.
Now, understandably, there’s a feeling that he needs to go and play on loan to fulfil his potential, rather than just sitting on the bench for another season.
The Observer are reporting that Aston Villa are keen to sign him, and that’s a move that makes great sense. He’s ready to play Premier League football, and a newly promoted team should give him a great chance of getting it.
Of course in an ideal world we’d see him playing for us, but if that’s not realistic, we’d rather he was playing top flight football somewhere. Villa could be the perfect landing spot for him.
