“I think he’s a very good player” – Reece James’ slightly odd comments over young teammate

Reece James has been speaking about Mason Mount on the Byline Podcast, and the young defender was full of praise for his teammate.

James has soaked up most of the loan army praise this year after a truly impressive effort with Wigan, but Mount also did well with Derby, and when it came to discussing who might be integrated back into the first team squad this season, his name was one that came up immediately.

“He’s one of the best I’ve played with” said James in quotes carried on Absolute Chelsea.

“A lot of people may say “I don’t see it” but I think he’s a very good player.”

That’s a slightly backhanded compliment, but he is at least trying to be nice.

Of course there are plenty of doubters who question whether Mason is the man for the job at hand at Chelsea, but at least his teammates seem confident he has the ability to make the breakthrough sooner rather than later.

James has injured himself over the summer break, but Mount is fit and firing and ready to try and earn his place in the team once preseason starts.

Let’s find out if Reece is right about Mason having what it takes.
