Chelsea chief Roman Abramovich makes promise to Frank Lampard during phone call

Roman Abramovich has assured Frank Lampard that he will be given two full seasons to prove his worth as Chelsea manager, according to Duncan Castles.

All signs now point to Lampard securing a fairytale return to Stamford Bridge, with Maurizio Sarri poised to walk out of the door.

Duncan Castles goes as far as claiming that Lampard has already agreed to become the new Chelsea manager, as he wrote in the Sunday Times today.

His information suggests that Abramovich himself phoned Lampard to get the deal over the line, with our record goalscorer giving the thumbs up.

It now appears to be merely a matter of time before official announcement comes of Lampard’s return to Chelsea. Derby are the only ones who stand in our way.

If Lampard, as claimed, has given Roman his word that he’ll take the job, we doubt that releasing him from his Rams contract will be too problematic.

Whatever fee we are given in exchange for Sarri can go directly towards freeing Lampard, who can then begin plans for pre-season and beyond.
