“It was the right time to join” – Eden Hazard reveals when he began speaking to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez

Real Madrid have landed their biggest target this summer and during the official unveiling on Thursday, the Belgium international revealed when the talks began with his new club.

Hazard completed a mammoth £89 million to the La Liga giants just a few days ago but had to wait for his unveiling to his new fans who trooped in thousands to watch him in the club’s famous white shirt for the first time. Hazard’s unveiling attracted 50,000 fans to the Santiago Bernabeu to further confirm how desperate the record time Champions League winners wanted him.

Actually, their need for Hazard is affirmed by how long they have been in discussions with the player’s representatives. The 28-year old says the Madrid club first contacted him last summer after he shone in the 2018 World Cup, leading Belgium to third place.

“After the World Cup there was contact but I stayed at Chelsea for another season. I think it was a good decision. We won the Europa League, it was a good campaign personally, and I just think it was the right time to join Real Madrid.”

His stay at the club for one more year helped the Blues secure Champions League place at the expense of Arsenal and Manchester United in the Premier League standings and also win the Europa League against the Gunners in Baku.
