The one day that convinced Maurizio Sarri he had to leave Chelsea

The Sun today has some pretty interesting “exclusive” claims about Maurizio Sarri’s time at Chelsea and when the Italian coach decided to leave.

They say that it was the “fuck Sarri-ball” chants in the win over Cardiff that triggered the coach’s decision that he had to leave, something which most Chelsea fans might have expected.

It’s rare to see fans turn on a manager so quickly – even more so during a win – but the dire fare being served up in those weeks after Christmas was enough to turn the fans.

The Blues went behind in that game, before a lucky break with an offside Azpilicueta goal got them back into it, and RLC then won it late on.

It was a lucky win, but coming so shortly after record defeats to Bournemouth and Man City, with some dreadful football played around the same time, the fans had made their minds up.

Clearly, as it turned out, Sarri had too.
