Manchester United legend tells Chelsea to appoint Frank Lampard as Maurizio Sarri replacement

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is adamant Chelsea will be making the right decision if they appoint Frank Lampard as their next head coach.

The two played together at West Ham United when they were beginning their careers before Lampard joined Chelsea while Ferdinand signed for Man United. The two went on to become legends at their respective clubs and Ferdinand thinks the former attacking midfielder is the right man to lead Chelsea once Maurizio Sarri leaves to join Juventus.

The former Napoli boss is tipped to be heading back to the Serie A, to join Juventus but according to the Daily Mail, Sarri and his backroom staff are waiting for the green light to make the move.

Lampard leads the pack of alternatives Chelsea have drawn up to replace the departing manager and Ferdinand believes it will not be a mistake by the Blues as the 40-year old will command respect from the players in the dressing room due to his unmistakable track record.

“I will actually be surprised if they look elsewhere — he is the perfect choice. People talk about experience but what experience did Pep Guardiola have when he went into Barcelona first team?

He trained the kids. Frank knows Chelsea, knows the players and the players will respect him. I don’t think he would be fazed by big personalities in that changing room.”
