“They have to make an offer” – Chelsea warned they’ll have to pay for latest target

Chelsea are all in on Frank Lampard.

The Maurizio Sarri experiment is over, and the Italian coach has been allowed to join Juventus. Clearly that means we’re confident of having a deal in place for a replacement sooner rather than later. But it won’t be easy if we want that man to be Frank Lampard.

The Derby coach is still very much under contract at Pride Park, and their tough negotiating owner Mel Morris’ quotes in The Sun today make it very clear that he’s not going to let him go easily:

“We’ve made it clear to everyone, but most importantly to Frank, that we want to retain him for the long term.”

“If Chelsea want to hire him, then they have to make an offer in pursuit of that.”

That’s fair enough, and it’s only equitable to see what we did with Sarri repeated with Frank. We should still make money on the change of managers given that we apparently only need to pay £4m for Frank.

But we need to be wary when it comes to negotiating. We’re the team without a manager now, so we’re in the worse negotiating position. We need to pay Morris what he wants, and get Frank in. No messing about.
