Why Lampard appointment could come sooner than expected

Maurizio Sarri’s move to Juventus is all but tied up, and now it’s a matter of who comes in to replace him.

All indications at this stage are that it will be Frank Lampard. Max Allegri has just ruled himself out, announcing that he will take a year off football.

The links to Erik Ten Hag seem to have gone cold, while the whispers around Lampard are growing louder and louder.

Derby are still saying they’ve received no approach, but it won’t take long to sort things out. Now that Juventus have agreed to pay Sarri’s full compensation, we have the funds on hand to get Frank out of his contract at Pride Park.

He’s hardly likely to turn us down, and contract terms shouldn’t be an issue, so from now it’s just a matter of waiting to see who makes the next move. With Sarri expected to be announced at Juventus today, Lampard should follow soon after, and Chelsea will have their first English manager in 23 years.
