Key Chelsea player reportedly set to miss start of next season

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger could miss the start of next season after a report by the Telegraph emerged saying the German will likely not recover in time.

Rudiger was ruled out of action for some months when he picked up an injury to his meniscus in his knee in April. It was expected that he would return to action sometime during the summer break and should be fit for the upcoming season, but the latest developments mean the Blues will not be with their star defender when the new campaign jets off.

Including the Europa League, Rudiger missed five games toward the end of the season, as Chelsea fought for a place in the Premier League top four standings. The 26-year old is on the right path in his recovery but will not be rushed back into action as per the Telegraph’s report.

Although that will be bad news for the incoming Chelsea coach, he will have David Luiz and Andreas Christensen to rely on until Rudiger returns to full-time action.
