Jorginho says he “proved the fans were wrong” in debut season

Jorginho has been on intentional duty with Italy, and the midfielder has been speaking a lot about his season with Chelsea.

It’s interesting to hear his take on how things went this year, and he is insistent that despite fans not being used to his style, he won them over in the end.

He also makes some inevitable reference to missing Italy, but his tone is very much focused on acknowledging that he wants to push on with what he’s started this season at Stamford Bridge.

The full quotes are available on FootballItalia here, and Twitter user the Blues helpfully posted them in Tweet form, as you can see here:

There’s certainly truth to the idea that he improved towards the end of the season, and as always with him it’s impossible to separate his success from that of the team in any game. When he plays well the team does, but when the system is failing he suffers more than anyone.

He did finish strongly, and as the team found the results it needed to get third in the league and win the Europa League, so did his steadiness in the middle.
