Frank Lampard personally called Gianfranco Zola to ask him to stay on at Chelsea as part of his coaching staff, according to journalist Nicolo Schira.
Zola’s future at Stamford Bridge has been in doubt ever since Maurizio Sarri departed to become the new manager of Juventus.
The club legend returned last summer as part of Sarri’s coaching setup, helping to ease the transition into life in the Premier League.
However, now Sarri is gone, what of Zola? That’s the question that’s been on everyone’s mind.
Nicolo Schira stops short of confirming that the matter has been resolved, but he believes that Lampard asked Zola to stay.

How true that is remains unclear, with Lampard already having a coaching setup which he will presumably be bringing with him from Derby County.
Whether Zola has been given the opportunity to stay on, or would even want to without Sarri, is something that will become clear over the next few weeks.
