Why Frank Lampard must be bold and say no to Chelsea amid talk of replacing Maurizio Sarri

The temptation from Stamford Bridge in the direction of Frank Lampard is enormous and there is every likelihood, should there be a concrete offer from the Blues, their cult hero would sign instantaneously.

Lampard is adored by the Chelsea fans. He is, of course, one of the names that have legendary status at the London club, having scored over 200 goals in the blue shirt to become their all-time top scorer. His time at the Bridge ended in 2015, but his presence still looms over that ground. He loves them and he knows the entire Chelsea fraternity idolize him. But the opportunity to return as a head coach has come all too soon.

Maurizio Sarri is not yet the Juventus manager but the talk has been that Lampard is the hot favorite to replace him, via the Mirror. His cult status at Chelsea remains intact as it is and Lamps must reject the opportunity to finish it upon his first official return to the club.

Having only begun management at Derby County last season, leading them to the Championship play-off final, the former West Ham United midfielder must learn to say no in his new career path or risk gambling part of his legacy at the Bridge. The Chelsea job is a poisoned chalice. The fans are impatient, the owner isn’t any different and the pressure that awaits him can make or unmake him in an instant.

Choose well Lamps.
