Derby fear losing out on Kane signing after manager change

Frank Lampard’s move to Chelsea is not done yet – in fact we could be some way away from all the details being finalised given there are still millions of pounds at stake.

But there’s already speculation about what he might do should he become Chelsea boss. The Sun today speculate that Todd Kane, who Lampard was hoping to tempt to Pride Park this summer, might suddenly persuaded to stay at Stamford Bridge this summer should Lampard arrive.

The right back’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires this summer, so the Rams were hoping to bring him in on the cheap. But the speculation is that, if Frank liked him enough to sign him for Derby, he might want him at Chelsea.

We wouldn’t be too worried. We have Reece James at the front of the queue for youth minutes, and Kane likely won’t feature in the manager’s thoughts too much, even if he did fancy him as a smart Championship free transfer.
