Chelsea target extends contract, good news for Frank Lampard

Reported Chelsea managerial target Erik ten Hag has extended his contract with Eredivisie champions Ajax.

ten Hag masterminded one hell of a season for the Dutch side, who lifted the league title and missed out on the Champions League final by a matter of seconds.

It comes as no surprise that his stature within the football world has risen as a result, with The Sun reporting that he has been linked with the Chelsea job.

However, ten Hag will not be leaving Ajax this summer, so it seems. If Chelsea were genuinely interested, they’re going to be forced to look elsewhere.

Ajax announced on Thursday that a new deal had been signed, with ten Hag set to oversee the rebuilding process in Amsterdam, with key players likely to depart.

Chelsea will have been naive not to consider ten Hag after the season Ajax had, but we find it hard to believe that appointing him was ever at the forefront of the minds of the board.

ten Hag extending his contract has surely seen Frank Lampard’s chances of landing the Chelsea job rise even higher. The club are left with few other options at this point.

The Mirror claim that Lampard is moving ever closer to getting his backside in the hot seat. Who needs ten Hag when you have Super Frank?
