Chelsea set to face English opposition in pre-season ahead of 2019/20 campaign

Chelsea are set to prepare for next season in Asia, but one of their games will be on English soil with a side from the Championship.

According to the Evening Standard, the Blues will take on Reading at the Madejski stadium in July, before traveling to Austria to face Red Bull Salzburg three days later.

The plans to get the players in top shape ahead of the next season include games against Japan’s J League side Kawasaki Frontale in Yokohama and European rivals Barcelona in Saitama on July 23.

Chelsea finished their season on a high, winning the Europa League final against Arsenal in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Maurizio Sarri’s side also beat Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur to the third place in the Premier League standings and are well-poised for the season to follow.

Reading finished 20th in the Championship this season, and although they are way lower than Chelsea in quality, the Royals will offer good enough competition to test their physical condition in a pre-season game.
