Reports at Foroyaa.com claim that Chelsea have offered a new contract to 20 year old midfielder Joe Colley.
The Swedish international’s deal runs out at the end of June, meaning he has some big decisions to make. He can sign on to stay at the club, and presumably be loaned out rather than continue playing in the youth team, or he can leave and join a club of his choosing on a free transfer.
It’s a tough decision that several young players will have to make this summer. Staying at Stamford Bridge offers more stability and security of course, but it also limits his future somewhat.
Heading out into the world on his own, however, would be a roll of the dice, but one that could see him establishing himself much faster, and potentially ending up starting at a bigger team sooner.
Foroyaa say he is “expected” to sign a new deal and go on loan in the Championship, but they don’t provide any sources, so it’s hard to judge the veracity of those claims.
