Chelsea may not have met top managerial target after all

Yesterday it was reported on Goal.com by Nizaar Kinsella that Chelsea had already had face to face discussions with Frank Lampard about potentially replacing Maurizio Sarri as Blues boss should the Italian head back to his home country to join Juventus.

The story was then updated to say that they were “set to meet with him”, as you can see in the current version, here.

That climb down is echoed in the Sun, who today say that the club’s hierarchy have not met Frank, although all these sources seem to be in agreement that he’s our top target.

Basically now we are just waiting for Maurizio Sarri’s move to Juventus to be finalised, when it will become legitimate for us to go and make open approaches for our targets.

That all plays into the compensation we may or may not receive from the Italian club, and having gone through all this with Conte a year ago, it’s no surprise to see we’re playing the game a little more cautiously this time round.
