Chelsea legend ends talk of Bridge return with new contract

John Terry has signed a contract extension at Aston Villa, ending speculation he could be coming back to Chelsea to join Frank Lampard if he becomes manager at the club.

It’s a pretty funny foible of the way Terry has gone to learn his trade in the Championship that he, an assistant manager recently in the second tier, makes front page news when he signs a contract, but that’s just how it is.

To be honest, we’re happy JT is staying put. He’s learning well under Dean Smith and will learn even more in the Premier League. We’re sure he’s impatient to take a job of his own soon, and learning there for another year or two may be better than coming to Chelsea to play a more minor role.

We’ve no doubt that he will be in charge here at Chelsea someday too, but there are plenty of seasons for everyone to have a turn.
