Chelsea to demand £30m for in-form defender

The BBC’s Phil McNulty is reporting that Everton are keen to sign Kurt Zouma, the defender who was on loan from Chelsea last season.

After a bad injury problem, Zouma had a good spell with Stoke City two years ago, before arriving at Everton last year. He broke into Marco Silva’s first team and never looked back, and now they want to keep him.

According to that report, Chelsea will demand over £30m for him, and that won’t be a surprise. That’s the going rate for a young, starting standard, Premier League calibre centre back these days.

The real question for Chelsea fans is whether we should let him go. He seems like he could actually improve us at the back, with plenty of fans preferring him to David Luiz or Antonio Rudiger, to say nothing of third choice Andreas Christensen.

Selling him, especially while hit with a transfer ban, would represent quite the controversial move for the upstairs suits at Chelsea.
