Chelsea agree ban-bypassing €50M transfer, contract to be signed on Saturday

Chelsea have agreed a fee with Real Madrid for the permanent transfer of midfielder Mateo Kovacic, according to Sky Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio.

Kovacic spent the 2018/19 campaign on-loan at Chelsea, failing to find the back of the net during any of his 51 appearances throughout the course of the season.

He has polarised opinion among Chelsea fans, with one argument being about his lack of effectivity, the other that he could be worth persevering with.

Chelsea appear to hold the latter opinion, with Di Marzio reporting late last night that we have agreed a €50M package to sign him permanently.

It’s mentioned in the report that Kovacic will put pen-to-paper on his contract on Saturday, with Chelsea able to bypass the ban to get the deal done.

Frank Lampard, should he officially be appointed Chelsea manager, will no doubt be delighted to have a midfielder of Kovacic’s quality in the squad.

While we are unable to shop around for alternatives, it makes sense that the club have taken this opportunity to make Kovacic a Blue.
