Atletico Madrid concerned Chelsea may complicate €55M transfer this summer

According to Spanish publication AS, Atletico Madrid are growing concerned that the Alvaro Morata situation may become complicated this summer.

As the report notes, Morata is very happy in Madrid and there’s no indication that Atletico are anything but content with the work he has done there.

However, that does not guarantee that the process of purchasing him on a permanent basis will be completely straightforward for Atletico.

It’s claimed in AS’ report that Atletico are fearful Chelsea could request that the €55M permanent option is paid in full this summer.

That would leave Atletico with less funds than they would consider ideal in the market. They’d much rather wait until next summer to cough up the cash.

Whether Chelsea will give them the opportunity to do that is unclear, but we do understand the logic of the club pushing for the deal to happen this summer.

If Morata were to have a poor campaign next time around, Atletico may get cold feet.

We can’t risk missing out on that €55M, even if paying it is an inconvenience for the La Liga side.
