Chelsea defender targeted by AS Roma with regular game-time hard to come by

AS Roma are interested in signing Chelsea right-back Davide Zappacosta this summer, according to Italian website Calciomercato.

Zappacosta is in a difficult position at Stamford Bridge. He must know that he’s never getting past captain Cesar Azpilicueta in the pecking order.

Not to mention that Chelsea have Reece James coming through, who has a much higher ceiling than the Italian and thus better deserves opportunities.

All signs point to Zappacosta departing the club in search of regular first-team football, with Roma reportedly prepared to give him a lifeline.

Calciomercato report that the Serie A giants are keen, but Chelsea’s transfer ban is likely to prevent the move from coming to fruition.

While we understand why Calciomercato may think that, Zappacosta is unlikely to have his future determined by the ban, mostly because of James.

All due respect to Davide, we may be better off long-term if we sell him and promote James, which could help him get a swift resolution on his future.
