Chelsea fans have not always been too happy with Roman Abramovich’s decision making in recent years, but one man who insists that the Russian is still at the top of his game is Marcel Desailly.
After the Real Madrid Leyendas game against Chelsea Legends, the defender was asked about the potential arrival of Frank Lampard at the club. Rather than focus on his old teammate, Marcel was more concerned with the man making the call:
“We need to understand and to trust the fact that every single time Abramovich or the management of Chelsea have been able to get the correct coach to go for victory,” the former France star observed.
“Europa League this year, third position, we were not very pleased about the way Chelsea played this year but how do you want them to go forward and win? There are two crazy teams [ahead of them]: Liverpool and City.
He’s not wrong. The number of times Chelsea have been criticised for firing a manager “too soon” and have then gone on to win something is just crazy. Maybe this time we should back the wily Russian’s judgment and hope that he’s made the right call again this summer by letting Maurizio Sarri leave to be replaced by Frank Lampard, if indeed that is what happens.
