Paul Merson urges Premier League forward to snub Tottenham and join Chelsea

Pundit Paul Merson has urged Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson to sign for Chelsea ahead of Tottenham this summer.

Slow up there, Merse, are we even interested?

Chelsea need a new centre-forward, we have done for some time now. However, we ought to be looking for the very best, which isn’t Wilson, all due respect to the man.

He’s proven his ability to score goals at a mid-table Premier League side, which isn’t always replicable when playing for a bigger side with higher expectations.

There’d be that level of pressure at Chelsea, while there wouldn’t be at Spurs, yet Merson still believes that a move to West London would be the right move for Wilson.

He’s quoted by the Express saying:

“If he goes to Tottenham, he’s not playing. Full stop. He’ll play every now and then when Harry Kane’s not fit, and that means then he’s never playing for England again.”

“I’d be seriously looking at Chelsea before Tottenham, for him, because he will play at Chelsea. He would be the centre-forward [at Chelsea].”

Wilson’s 14 goals in 28 appearances wouldn’t cut it at Chelsea. We need someone who’s going to be producing 20-30 if we want to keep pace with Liverpool and City.

If Spurs want Wilson, they can have him.
