Maurizio Sarri reveals when Chelsea can catch Man City and Liverpool at the top

Maurizio Sarri has revealed his desire to stay at Chelsea, revealing his belief that we can catch Manchester City and Liverpool within two years.

Sarri has had a difficult time convincing the Chelsea supporters of his managerial competence. Unlike many of his predecessors, he doesn’t have a single trophy triumph on his C.V.

Considering we had Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, two of the most decorated in management, in charge prior to Sarri, it’s certainly bizarre we’ve appointed a man who’s won nothing.

Bizarre isn’t necessarily a negative, though. Sarri’s modern philosophy is a breath of fresh air, he just needs time to successfully implement his ideas at Stamford Bridge.

That’s the case that he’s made, perhaps in hope of earning more time from the Chelsea board. Sarri is reported saying in quotes carried by Italian site Calciomercato:

“Will I stay here next season? As far as I’m concerned, yes. I want to stay, English football has unique rhythms and atmospheres. We deserved to beat Eintracht; they are a good team to face at a difficult time of the season.”

“In England the game is played at very high levels, perhaps the highest there are today, all in a wonderful atmosphere and with the stadiums always full. I am sure that in two years of work we will be closer to the leaders.”

Sarri has absolutely earned a second season in charge of Chelsea. We’re never going to get anywhere if we don’t give the manager sufficient time to instil his philosophy into the squad.

We’re yet to be convinced that we can catch City and Liverpool within one more season, but we’d be pleasantly surprised if Maurizio was able to pull it off.

In City and Liverpool we’re talking about two of the best teams in Premier League history. We’re some way off the pace, but with investment in the market and trust in our manager – who knows?
