Chelsea are in a European final next week, but all the talk in the last few days has been about our manager leaving.
Maurizio Sarri’s season has had its ups and downs, but recently the negativity has built to a crescendo. This weekend, the English press was full of whispers that he would be on his bike no matter what the result of the final in Baku.
Those reports, like this one in the Metro, all have one thing in common – they name Frank Lampard as the man who will come in to replace Sarri. Max Allegri’s departure from Juventus has greased the wheels even further, creating a perfect job for Sarri to step into, and another man on the market who we might want to appoint.

The Sarri to Italy, Lampard to Chelsea story is gaining momentum with every passing day.
Wherever the truth lies, whoever is going to be Blues boss for the next campaign will need a full hassle-free preseason with the squad especially if the transfer ban takes effect this summer. pic.twitter.com/OrnNuQPLMy— Mark Worrall (@gate17marco) May 20, 2019
Oddly, Derby manager Lampard has his own cup final next week – against Aston Villa in the playoff final. So maybe both managers will be arriving in a new job on the back of major success – or serious failure.
Either way, what started off as quite fantastical rumours now seem to be gathering pace pretty quickly.
