Super agent Jorge Mendes has given Chelsea the chance to speak to Julen Lopetegui over becoming the club’s next manager, according to the Times.
With Maurizio Sarri’s future at Stamford Bridge yet to be resolved, it’s natural that managers from around the football world are being linked with his post.
A name which we didn’t envisage would be in the mix is Lopetegui, who was sacked by Real Madrid earlier in the season after a string of poor results.
That came after Lopetegui lost his job as Spain manager before the World Cup for agreeing to join Los Blancos ahead of La Roja’s campaign in Russia.
It’s safe to say that Lopetegui’s had a difficult time of late, which is why we can’t see Chelsea taking a risk on him at this point in time.
Either way, the Times believe that he’s a potential option if Sarri does depart, with Frank Lampard and Massimiliano Allegri his competitors.
