How Chelsea can qualify for the Champions League this weekend, two possible scenarios

How Chelsea can qualify for the Champions League THIS WEEKEND. Let’s get straight into it…

Mathematical qualification

Chelsea can mathematically qualify for the Champions League this weekend if both Arsenal and Manchester United lose, while we defeat Watford at Stamford Bridge.

Neither Arsenal or United have won any of their last three league games (nor have we, in truth), with the Gunners hosting Brighton and the Red Devils travelling to Huddersfield.

Both of our competitors will be pretty content with the fixture they have this weekend, but in recent weeks and months they’ve both dropped points in this game.

We can hope.

Near-enough qualification

This one all comes down to Arsenal. If the Gunners are defeated at home by Brighton and Chelsea defeat Watford, we will be five points ahead of Unai Emery’s men.

However, if United were to win, they’d be just three points behind us with a game to play. Thankfully, our considerably better goal difference means that this scenario would play out in our favour.

Both of these potential circumstances rely on Arsenal losing at home.

Worst case scenario

If Chelsea are defeated to Watford at home, with Arsenal and Man United both winning, we face a real uphill battle to secure Champions League qualification.

We would be relying on Arsenal to drop points on the final day away to Burnley, who will have absolutely nothing to play for by that point.

We can’t let this one happen!
