French Ligue 1 club confirm summer interest in Chelsea goal-machine

French Ligue 1 side Nice have expressed interest in signing Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud ‘if’ the striker ‘feels unhappy’ in London.

Giroud’s situation at the Stamford Bridge club is frustrating for the player, one would feel. The Frenchman is hoping to find an amicable solution to his constant bench role under Maurizio Sarri but if it means he will be forced to leave the Premier League giants, then he might just have to.

Having played second fiddle to Alvaro Morata since he signed for the Blues in January 2018, the 32-year old was also resigned to the same role when Gonzalo Higuain was signed to replace Morata in the recent winter transfer window.

Now, Giroud is at crossroads in his career. He needs assurances from Sarri that he will be trusted more next season, if he is to stay. Scoring 10 goals in this season’s Europa League campaign will help his case. Nice are watching on, and have confirmed internal discussions have already been held about Giroud’s possible signing.

“If Olivier Giroud decides to come that is because he likes the project at OGC Nice. If Olivier is not happy at Chelsea, if he wants to play, we will take all the elements into account. I have spoken with Patrick [Vieira] about Olivier Giroud, but we have not spoken with Olivier Giroud.”
