If FIFA ban is upheld, Chelsea must keep faith with academy graduates

Maurizio Sarri was slow to integrate his youth players this season but when he did, the results have been staggeringly positive and the same mentality must be taken into next season, right from the start.

Chelsea will consider this a good season, having made the top four among a fiercely competing top six clubs. They are also on the verge of making the Europa League final and will also look at the emergence of Callum Hudson-Odoi has a real shining light in the campaign. The 18-year old’s progress makes a huge argument for the other top youth players, overlooked by Sarri and his coaching staff.

The likes of Mason Mount and Ola Aina must be considered as possibilities to return to  the club and fight for a first-team place. There are several players impressing out on loan and instead of fighting a lost cause to sign ready-to-go players, Chelsea must commit their young Blues to first-team football with this unique chance.

Instead of attempting to keep Mateo Kovacic who will be costly anyway, Chelsea could stick with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and utilize Mason Mount as cover in the midfield that also has evergreen Kante and Jorginho. The future looks good for the club and the youth have a part to play in it.
