Chelsea’s £58m signing “may not get it right away” according to teammate

When Chelsea agreed a deal to sign Christian Pulisic back in January, it was already controversial to let him return to Germany on loan.

The squad was particularly thin at that point, with both Willian and Pedro picking up minor injuries. For a while, Ruben Loftus-Cheek was our second choice right winger.

So letting Pulisic, who signed a £58m deal early in the winter window, stay on loan at Dortmund seemed odd. Certainly with Eden Hazard leaving this summer, we will need Pulisic ready for next season. But according to his American colleague Weston McKennie, he might not even be ready by the start of next season.

KcKennie was trying to be positive, but in doing so accidentally revealed that he wasn’t sure the 19 year old was going to be ready to start at the start of 19/20:

“I think he’ll be a great signing for Chelsea. He may not get it right away, he may get in and play you never know, but I think he’ll be helpful for them in any way that they use him,” he said in quotes carried by Sky Sports.

We really hope he does “get it right away”. With Hazard gone and Callum Hudson-Odoi out injured, Pulisic is going to be needed from week one, unless things change.
