Chelsea hope to sign up “natural successor to Cesar Azpilicueta” this summer

Reece James will be offered a new contract at Chelsea this summer as the Blues look to consolidate the young talent’s future at the club.

He excelled at Wigan last season on loan, and is reportedly now going to push to be in the first team.

The Independent are the ones saying this, and they say that the club see him as a “natural replacement to Cesar Azpilicueta”.

They say he will be offered a long term deal this summer, and while they don’t mention the terms, it’s only logical to assume that an excellent season in the Championship will have boosted his wages considerably.

We’ve lost too many players to dodgy contract situation to let it happen again. We need to convince Reece he’s the future, and get him committed on paper for the long term.

He can be the first building block in a defence that could one day feature several youth products, if we continue excelling at that level.
