Chelsea have advantage over Man U – but not Barcelona or Real – in chase for £60m rated forward

It’s that time of the year where we turn transfer detective – and this time we’re tracing back today’s rumours about Luka Jovic.

The Frankfurt striker scored twice against us across two legs in the Europa League, and has been linked with the top clubs in Europe all year after a really impressive season in the Bundesliga.

Now the top transfer chatter for Chelsea today comes from ReadChelsea, who say we are to make a move for the striker if our ban is frozen. That would make sense, and would make Chelsea fans very, very happy.

Where do they get their information from? They link to this piece in the Daily Express, which has similar claims, but itself cites Football.London, without linking to it.

Don’t worry though, we found it – it’s Oli Harbord’s piece from yesterday, where he also notes that Frankfurt are asking £60m for the Serbian.

What he says is that Jovic wants to play in the Champions League, which gives us an advantage over Man United when it comes to signing him.

That’s true – but it seems more like we’re competing with Real Madrid and Barcelona to sign him at this stage, so we’re not sure how useful it will really be to have Man U out of the race.
