CAS make surprising Chelsea admission with transfer window about to open

It has been confirmed to Oliver Harbord of Football.London that Chelsea have not yet appealed to CAS over their transfer ban.

The following quote from the independent body was received by the site:

“At the time of writing [May 21], the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has not received an appeal from Chelsea FC.”

FIFA confirmed that our internal appeal had been rejected a couple of weeks ago, and it seemed inevitable that we would then take it to a higher court. Even if CAS deny us too, we would at least be able to buy players in the interim.

This is odd, however, because as some have noted, Chelsea said in their initial reaction to the punishment that they would be appealing to CAS. See the Tweet below:

As is so often the case with Chelsea, we simply don’t know the situation. Whether this is a strategic move, a lack of competence, or just an admission we’ve got nothing to gain by appealing, it’s all very strange.

If only our own club were as easy to get a statement out of as CAS…
