There were plenty of question marks about playing this friendly against the New England Revolution before the Europa League final, and the worst mutterings have come true as a Chelsea starter has left the field injured.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek has just been taken off by the physios, looking in serious pain. It doesn’t look good, even with two weeks till the final. This is a real sickener.
Ruben is not only a fan favourite because he’s from the academy, he’s genuinely our most dangerous midfield threat.
He hadn’t even started the game, only coming on at half time as the manager presumably looked to protect some of his players from playing too many minutes.
The team is already without N’Golo Kante in all likelihood for the Arsenal match, losing Ruben too is just such a heavy blow.
It will mean a Ross Barkley, Jorginho, Kovacic midfield – with nothing on the bench.
We await further news nervously.
A worrying sight for Chelsea fans.
Loftus-Cheek has hobbled off with a suspected ankle injury and it looks like a serious problem.
Not ideal with the Europa League final in just under two weeks' time.

I’d be very surprised if that isn’t the end of Loftus-Cheek’s season. The reason for this friendly is unimpeachable but the timing always left the possibility for something like this. Sarri was right to be worried #cfc
