BREAKING: Chelsea confirm CAS appeal in official response to FIFA ruling

Chelsea have responded to the ban handed down to them by FIFA ealier today.

The Blues were initially charged with illegal practices when it came to signing under 18 players over Christmas, and they lodged an appeal last month.

Football’s governing body responded today, annoucing that the appeal had been turned down.

Now it was Chelsea turn to respond, with the Blues releasing this statement shortly afterwards:

“Chelsea FC has today received the decision of the FIFA Appeal Committee.

‘The Club notes that the FIFA Appeal Committee has decided to partially uphold the appeal lodged by Chelsea FC against the decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee. However, the Club is very disappointed that the transfer ban of two consecutive registration periods was not overturned.

‘Chelsea FC categorically refutes the findings of the FIFA Appeal Committee. It acted in accordance with the relevant regulations and will appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)”

As predicted, the Blues will take their case to the Court of Arbitration for sport. That is the highest power we can appeal to, and while it’s unclear whether or not we have ground to see our punishment reduced or removed, by opening a case with them we will be able to freeze the registration ban – thus allowing us to sign players this summer, at the very least.

It’s not ideal, but it will have to do. We hope to find out what happens next very soon.
