Why Tiemoue Bakayoko may be returning to Chelsea this summer after all

In an unexpected turn of events, Tiemoue Bakayoko may not be staying at AC Milan next season after all.

Bakayoko, having struggled to impress during his debut season here, has been back to his very best while on-loan at the Rossoneri this term.

He’s become a key player under Gennaro Gattuso’s management, which is why we had assumed he would be intending on staying put.

However, Goal in Italy report that Bakayoko could be driven out of Serie A by the glaring issues the division has with racism.

As the report notes, there have been various incidents throughout the season where racism towards players has not been responded to with sufficient punishment.

It has created an environment in which no black player would be comfortable playing, which could lead to Bakayoko snubbing a permanent move to the San Siro.

Whether that means he will be permanently returning to Chelsea, or moving elsewhere, remains to be seen. We hope it’s the former, because he’s been superb this season.

Bakayoko is on Chelsea’s books and would be joining up with the squad for pre-season. Perhaps Maurizio Sarri could be convinced of his worth following his improvement.
