‘We will try’ – AC Milan chief confirms club’s interest in signing this Chelsea player

AC Milan chief Paolo Maldini has confirmed the club’s desire to sign Tiemoue Bakayoko on a permanent basis, but adds that any deal will be subject to FFP.

Milan are one of several top clubs worldwide who have had troubles meeting FFP regulations. As a result, their transfer business relies on their ability to comply.

One player who they will no doubt consider a priority signing as we approach the summer is Bakayoko, who has been sensational for the Italian side since joining on loan.

As unthinkable as it was that Bakayoko could turn his career around and progress into an accomplished midfielder, he has done so during his stint at the San Siro.

Maldini has now confirmed that the club are hoping to keep hold of him, but of course, it relies on FFP. He told Mediaset (with the interview being translated by Goal):

“[Bakayoko] showed great character. He didn’t start very well and had to adapt to a different situation than he was used to.”

“We are super happy with him and we will try to keep him.”

“It will depend on Financial Fair Play and the final position in the league. [Qualifying for] the Champions League will matter in the market but also for the mood of the squad.”

It suits all parties to get this deal over the line. Milan get the midfielder they crave, while Chelsea bank a presumably considerable sum for a player surplus to requirements.
