Owen Hargreaves warns Chelsea about treacherous Europa League semi-final clash

Former Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves has warned Chelsea about the threat that Frankfurt will pose in the Europa League semi-finals.

Chelsea overcame Slavia Prague 4-3 on Thursday night to ensure their progression to the semi-final stage of Europe’s second tier competition.

Frankfurt overturned a 3-2 first-leg defeat to knockout 2013 finalists Benfica and book a match up with Chelsea in the last four.

Chelsea will head into the tie as firm favourites to progress to the final of the competition, but Hargreaves is adamant that it won’t be easy.

The Englishman, who is well accustomed to German football from his time with Bayern Munich, is quoted by Football London saying:

“That won’t be easy. It looks comfortable for Chelsea but it definitely won’t be.”

Of course, no European semi-final is going to be a walk in the park, but it would be a serious upset if Frankfurt were to knock Chelsea out.

Considering Arsenal are also likely to be in the final in Baku, that ought to provide added motivation for the Chelsea squad.
