Maurizio Sarri takes sly dig as former side Napoli crash out of the Europa League

Maurizio Sarri appears to have taken a sly dig at Serie A giants Napoli, who he joined Chelsea from back in the summer of last year.

Ever since the Italian departed the Stadio San Paolo, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis has only spoken ill of him.

It seems bizarre, especially considering that Sarri came close to ending Juventus’ period of dominance, missing out on the title by four points.

Regardless, there’s no love lost between the two parties, as Sarri proved once again after reaching the Europa League semi-finals last night.

Sarri is quoted by the Metro suggesting that he’s unhappy Napoli were knocked out because we’d have a good chance of beating them:

“I’m not happy that Napoli are out because, if the final is Chelsea v Napoli, I’m sure at the end of the match I’d be really happy.”

“This time I don’t want to play the final; I want to win the final.”

We admire Sarri’s confidence and his desperation to win this competition. He’s never won a trophy, and there’s never been a better time to do it.
