“He’s a real striker” – Former Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder knows where Sarri went wrong

Claude Makelele isn’t afraid to hold back when it comes to sharing his opinion.

The Frenchman was a world class player both at Real Madrid and later at Chelsea, so he’s in a good position to judge two players who have also passed through both Cobham and Valdebebas.

This season we discarded one – Alvaro Morata – for another – Gonzalo Higuain. But the trade hasn’t suited us much. While Morata has returned to Spain and found form with Atletico on loan, Higuain’s struggles from Italy have continued here.

In fact, according to quotes from Makelele recorded on The Metro, we make a mistake changing options up top in the first place:

“For me, the one is Morata. He’s a real striker.”

It’s certainly easy to see Higuain toiling around the pitch with no juice in his legs at all and think fondly of our memories of Morata. But just because the Spaniard is scoring again and Higuain isn’t doesn’t mean we should forget all the suffering we had with Morata up top.
