Frank Lampard becoming Chelsea manager no longer a pipe dream – here’s why

Frank Lampard becoming Chelsea manager would’ve been a pipe dream a year ago, but it’s fast becoming a genuine possibility.

With Maurizio Sarri under pressure and Chelsea at risk of missing out on the Champions League again, it would be a surprise to few if there was another change of management this summer.

Chelsea have exhausted their options in terms of top managers, with the ones who we haven’t tried, Pep Guardiola, Massimiliano Allegri, Diego Simeone, Jurgen Klopp, etc. all being tied up.

If Sarri were to depart, we may be left with no choice but to gamble on someone less experienced, someone who trusts the younger players, someone who knows the club…

You can see what we’re getting that.

As ESPN report, former Chelsea midfielder Lampard has been linked with the managerial position – and it’s believed that he wouldn’t be deterred by the club’s transfer ban.

Lampard’s potential interest in the job is far from confirmation that Chelsea would be willing to take a risk on him, but recent events suggest that they could be prepared to do so.

The Telegraph reported yesterday evening that Chelsea are willing to offer Petr Cech some of Michael Emenalo’s former responsibilities in hope of convincing him to return.

Cech has no experience in a technical role, but his knowledge of the club appears to be the motivation behind Chelsea’s willingness to give him an opportunity.

Could it be the case for Lamps, too?

Lampard has proven at Derby he’s willing to give young players a chance. He’s also worked wonders with two of our academy products in Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount.

Considering we have a manager who the fans have chanted against this season, bringing Lampard in would also be a way to get them back on side.

Of course, this all depends on Sarri being dismissed, but it’s safe to say that Lampard returning is no longer beyond the realms of possibility.
