Dramatic turnaround sets Chelsea star up to rejoin first team for season run-in

Maurizio Sarri has trusted a few players throughout the season and one of them is Antonio Rudiger, but when he walked off the pitch in the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool last Sunday, the consensus was that the defender will play no part of Chelsea’s remaining games of the season. That narrative has changed.

The Evening Standard reports that the Germany international will be okay to play a part in Chelsea’s run-in despite initial fears. He held his knee when he went down on the Anfield turf and needed the assistance of two Chelsea physios to exit the grounds for immediate medical attention.

He had said he hoped the injury ‘wasn’t too serious’ when he walked down the tunnel, per the Standard, and his wishes have come true.

After scans on Monday, it has been determined that he will not be out for long and although the Europa League match against Slavia Prague on Thursday comes too soon, Rudiger will likely be available for selection in a couple of weeks.
