Chelsea’s potential signing of £70m star winger can only be positive headache for Maurizio Sarri

It may be that Chelsea are only cementing their interest in yet another one of the world’s brightest young players or they indeed have some conviction that their transfer ban will not kick off next summer. That’s because the Mirror says the Blues are targeting LOSC Lille winger Nicolas Pepe.

It will be seven years after Chelsea won the race to sign Eden Hazard, that the London giants will apparently be seeking to return to the French Ligue 1 club for another one of their gems. Chelsea are uncomfortable knowing Hazard wants to move to Real Madrid and the Spanish giants share similar wishes. With a transfer in the summer almost impossible to stop, Chelsea have turned their attention to Pepe to solve their creativity problems in Hazard’s absence.

Christian Pulisic has been confirmed to come in after this season, but Maurizio Sarri wants more firepower up front and has sanctioned the move for the Ivory Coast international. The move for the player will mean there will be more competition in the wing spots next season.

Willian, Pedro, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Pulisic will battle the newcomer for regular spots, and that can only be a good headache for Sarri.
