Chelsea striker stays inside ‘out of fear’, appears to take fan abuse to heart

We thought that we had replaced Alvaro Morata with a mentally stronger and more refined model in Gonzalo Higuain. We were wrong.

Not only has Higuain been outscored by Morata following their respective January moves, but he also appears to be every bit as mentally fragile as his predecessor.

Higuain has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks after struggling to find the back of the net in a Chelsea shirt. The fans’ view of him has fast taken a sour turn.

The Argentine appears to have been affected by it. He’s quoted by The Sun revealing his reluctance to leave his home through fear of abuse:

“I always regret closing myself in and staying at home instead of going out on the street out of fear of what they might tell me.”

“There are people who do so many bad things and go around without shame.”

“And instead we – who have not killed anyone, who do things well and are basically just sportsmen – why can’t we go around happy?”

Higuain has been poor for us, but it’s sad to hear that he doesn’t feel as though he can so much as go outside. Nobody deserves that.

If he starts producing for us over the next few weeks, fans’ opinions will change. We’re a fickle bunch.

Hopefully that would make him more comfortable living his life outside of football, whether that be in West London or elsewhere.
