Chelsea send scout to watch 21-year-old Brazilian in action, Shakhtar also linked

Chelsea have been linked with Athletico Paranaense midfielder Bruno Guimarães, with Globo Esporte reporting that we sent a scout to watch him in action on Tuesday evening.

The Blues have shopped in Brazil several times over the past years, but the transfers have not always proven to be worthwhile.

Oscar was perhaps the most successful, but even he was never able to fulfil his true potential during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Could Bruno be the man to break the curse?

The 21-year-old midfielder, who has only ever netted one senior goal, is believed to have been scouted by Chelsea at the Arena da Baixada on Tuesday.

That’s what Globo Esporte claim, with their report noting that Ukrainian heavyweights Shakhtar Donetsk are also keeping tabs.

Shakhtar have acted as somewhat of a halfway house for Brazilian players attempting to make it in Europe. Bruno would no doubt be granted more opportunities there than he would at Chelsea.

The temptation to sign for a club of our calibre is surely difficult to resist, however. If Bruno got a call from Marina Granovskaia, it’s hard to see him hanging up.
