An elbow to the face and a shunting into the stands, Cesar Azpilicueta put it all on the line for the team he captained against Manchester United yesterday, and was rewarded with a point – and a lot of praise from the sports writers who were watching.
The Spaniard’s declining form has seen him come in for a lot of criticism at times this season, but today he was back to his harrying best down the right.
His enthusiastic pressing did lead to him getting shunted by Romelu Lukaku once, but apart from that he kept United very quiet down that side.
By the end it was clear that we were just playing for a draw, and Azpi made it happen with some tenacious stuff at the back. What was interesting was how that contrasted with the Twitter fans of Chelsea, who as always, were disgusted with his efforts.
Which side did you come down on?

Here are my player ratings from Old Trafford. A captain's display from Azpilicueta, Alonso and Pedro save a point but Higuain poor. #cfc https://t.co/XpfSBenOae

I thought Cesar Azpilicueta had a really good game today. Not much else to shout about though. #CFC #MUFC #MUNCHE
